Seven Steps

Have you ever identified a sexual predator?  Ever recognize a child who was sexually abused?  If not, you're probably missing something.  1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused by their 18th birthday.  That means in every classroom and every neighborhood full of children, there are kids silently bearing the burden of sexual abuse.

CAC's mission is to lessen these terrifying statistics because they're not just statistics, they're children. They could be your neighbor's children or even your children, but they are children who rely on adults like you to protect them from harm.

To be more proactive in the fight against child sexual abuse, we are partnering with Darkness to Light to give adults the knowledge they need to help prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Seven steps are involved in this eye-opening program that gives you the courage to confront child sexual abuse.

Every step is critical to saving children from the horrors of molestation, but perhaps none more than the seventh step — get involved.  Volunteering and financially supporting the CAC is one of the best ways to make a difference.

In order to facilitate this type of training on a regular basis, we are in need of regular donations. We are asking for a dollar per step. Just seven dollars a month will help coordinate these efforts and give you the tools you need to break the cycle of abuse.  You can give more, or less, as everything is greatly appreciated.  But please, don't hesitate because in the time it took you to read this, a child has been sexually abused.  Prevention starts with you.

Step 1: Learn the facts
Realities—not trust—should influence your decisions regarding your child.

Step 2: Minimize Opportunity
If you eliminate or reduce one-adult/one-child situations, you'll dramatically lower the risk of sexual abuse for your child.

Step 3: Talk about it
Children often keep abuse a secret, but barriers can be broken down by talking openly about it.

Step 4: Stay Alert
Don't expect obvious signs when a child is being sexually abused.

Step 5: Make a Plan
Learn where to go, who to call and how to react.

Step 6: Act on Suspicions
The future well-being of a child is at stake.

Step 7: Get involved
Volunteer and financially support organizations that fight the tragedy of child sexual abuse
